Can You Install Vinyl Plank Over Your Tiles?

The answer is yes, you can! We commonly lay vinyl plank over existing ceramic or porcelain tiles. The main condition for this process is ensuring your existing tiles are well stuck down to your floor. Unfortunately, if your existing tiles are drummy or lifting, this is not an option for you and we would recommend having them removed before installing vinyl plank.

If you are in doubt we would recommend you arrange for one of our friendly consultants to conduct a free inspection. We can then confirm the suitability of this process in your home.

What is Involved?

In order to be ready to lay your vinyl plank it is necessary to prepare your tiles. This involves:

  • A thorough grind to remove any contaminants and high spots in your tiles;

  • Priming the floor to allow a perfect bond between tiles and self-levelling cement; and

  • Levelling your tiles with a self-levelling cement creating a smooth, level surface.

Once we have prepared your tiles, your floor is ready for vinyl plank!

The good news is we do this frequently and are able to provide an all inclusive quote. The better news is if we take care of the above you will still receive a full product and installation warranty. But, the best news is this process is roughly HALF the cost of removing your tiles - saving you $$$$.
